What is Laser spinal surgery?
Laser spinal surgery(PLDD) uses a laser fiber through a very thin needle to evaporate the nucleus of the disc to reduce pressure in the back and on the nerve. It is different than Percutaneous Disc Decompression(PDD) that takes a chunk of disc out using a more invasive cut that can destroy the disc.
How is it different from other surgeries?
Laser surgery is the least invasive technique designed to preserve as much of the disc as possible. There are no hardware placements. You can always do other surgeries after Laser surgery, but you cannot do Laser surgery after other spine surgeries such as spinal fusion, laminectomy, or Percutaneous Disc Decompression.
Recovery
The procedure takes less than an hour, and is done on an outpatient basis. There is no downtime and pain usually improves in 2-4 weeks!
How Much Does Laser Spine Surgery Cost?
The cost of laser surgery for back pain varies based on the patient and the spinal disorder that needs to be treated. It is usually less than traditional surgery.
